tired of hearing about this? well we’re damn tired of all you disrespectful people who vandalize photographers’ work. this is extremely important, and i would really appreciate it if everyone could take a few minutes to read through.
first off, what makes me bring this up, is that as i write this, three admins of wonderful and dedicated korean infinite fansites ((finite-in, myoasis & wansol)) are talking about people who edit & crop out the logo of fantaken pictures. and they’re specifically talking about tumblr editors, so don’t think you are being incognito and that no one knows what you’re doing. the people who you’re stealing & vandalizing the work of? they see you doing it. my korean is extremely limited, but from their discussion i understood that they call it pathetic, that they’re making fun of editors, that they feel like watermarking their pictures is useless as you guys simply crop them out, and one of them straight up called tumblr editors “pirates.”
now that you understand that you’re not only angering fellow tumblr users, but the photographers who’re generous & nice enough to provide you with pictures of your oppars, let me explain why you have absolutely no excuse whatsoever for doing what you are doing.
let’s say, you just spent several hundreds on a new camera & another few hundreds to travel to an event featuring infinite. you suffer in line for hours, get pushed around throughout the event, possibly even injure yourself. but thankfully, you managed to snap a few beautiful shots of your bias. you then spend hours in photoshop adjusting the colors & lighting, fixing flaws & etc until you find the pictures perfect. you’re proud of them, right? all the money, pain & time spent was worth it because you took beautiful pictures that you love! of course, you’re proud of your work, so you want to show your pictures to others! but then! oooh then. some jackass comes around, steals your picture, removes everything that links it back to you, edits over work you were proud of and thought was already perfect, and posts it elsewhere. perhaps they even have the nerve to slap their own watermark over it, because hey, the ten, MAYBE twenty minutes they spent sitting on a chair, slapping on adjustment layers TOTALLY makes them the owner of the picture!!! who cares if you spent money, time & energy to take the picture!! L O L sighs. do you understand now? do you understand why what you’re doing is absolutely and utterly disrespectful?
the excuse i see people use the most often is “IF THEY DON’T WANT PEOPLE TO EDIT THEY CAN JUST KEEP IT TO THEMSELVES!!!! IT’S THE INTERNET!!” which is seriously the most ridiculous & ignorant excuse ever. as mentioned above, if you’re proud of your work, you want to show it off, right? and it has always been like this. before computers even existed. art is meant to be shared. art galleries, museums, publicity, graffiti, whatever it is, art has always been a thing to share with the public. but it does not mean that it is acceptable to vandalize it. do you think people are like “I HAVE ALL THE RIGHTS TO PAINT OVER THE MONA LISA, THEY JUST SHOULDN’T HAVE PUT IT UP IN A MUSEUM!!!!” it’s a matter of respect, following copyrights & COMMON SENSE.
last but not least, i agree with the korean inspirits who were talking about you; you are pathetic. don’t try to deny the fact that you’re only doing this because you want notes & followers.
i speak on behalf of infinite fansites, but truthfully, this applies to all fan created material. my apologies for this long post, but some things just need to be said, yes ♥?
with love, rise xox (๑◕‿◕๑✿)Editing fantaken photos is definitely an issue for all fandoms and tumblr is definitely the source of distress for many Korean fansites. Koreans know about tumblr, they know about editing, and they do talk about it a lot.
Don’t think that editing is not a big deal just because this is tumblr. It’s a big deal BECAUSE of tumblr and because lots of people don’t understand or care enough.
Please care. And please don’t reblog or like any edited fantaken photos.
